Linux installation step by step:
- Download the latest image from: https://www.centos.org/download/
- If you install on a physical server (not a virtual machine) make o bootable USB disk and put the image on that disk
- Start the server and choose to boot from USB. Select “Install Centos 7”
- Choose the language
- On the next page you will choose where will be Centos installed, what type of version (minimal, server, server with GUI), setup the network. If something is missing and needs to be setup, you will see an exclamation triangle until it’s fixed.
- In this case there is no disk/partition selected for the installation. When you select the disk you can leave it default “Automatically configure partitioning” or configure the partition by yourself. If you never did it before it’s better to leave it by default.
- After selecting the disk, choose which type of installation you need.
- There are many options, if you never used Linux before, use one with GUI. Take longer to install it, but you will get graphical interface when is done.
- After you selected what you need to install, click Done and Begin installation. When the installation begin you will get a notification about “root password” and “no user created”. You need to choose the “root” password, but no need for user creation right now (you will have another option after installation is done).
- Choose a strong password and click Done.
- After the password is set it will continue installation.
- When the installation is done, will require a Reboot.
- After rebooting, you will get another Exclamation triangle because you need to accept the License, just click on License Information and accept the terms. After that, click on Finish Configuration.
- Again, you will choose the language (this time for the OS, before was the language for the installation process) and click Next.
- Select the keyboard layout and click Next.
- Privacy I personally turn it OFF and click Next.
- Select the time zone and click Next.
- Next step will ask you to create a user locally or set up Enterprise login and click Next.
- Setup the password and click Next.
- This was the last step. Start using CentOS now.
